John "Austin" Fleming

Boonville Mr. John "Austin" Fleming, 97, our inspirational and beloved uncle left his earthly home on Monday, January 12, 2015. Mr. Fleming was born June 25, 1917 in Yadkin County to Earlie and Anna Douglas Fleming. He was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant UMC where he served as treasurer for over 50 years, was the oldest member, and had perfect attendance for over 50 years. Mr. Fleming served in the US Army during WWII and was a retired tobacco and dairy farmer. He was also the oldest member of the East Bend American Legion Post 336. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fleming was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Groce and Mary Jo Doub; and three brothers, Clyde, James, and Kenneth Fleming. Those left to cherish his memory include, nieces and nephews, David (Susie) Groce, Judy (Marty) Roach, Cathy (George) Webb, Betsy (Ronnie) Vanhoy, Deana Doub, Patsy (J.E.) Brown, Louise (Jerry) Robinson, and Kenneth Fleming; a brother-in-law, Graham Groce; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 2:00PM at Mt. Pleasant UMC with Dr. Greg Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant UMC, c/o Ray Parker, Parker Rd Boonville NC 27011. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Melany Martin, Sherry Poindexter, the staff of Elite Living Home, the staff of Magnolias over Yadkin, Yadkin Nursing Center, Hospice, and all friends, neighbors, and church family for all the love, care, and support shown to Mr. Fleming.
