Gary Dwayne Whitaker

Mr. Gary Dwayne Whitaker, 62 of Yadkinville passed away January 15, 2015 Thursday afternoon during an excursion in Cozumel, Mexico, while on a cruise. Gary was born in Surry County on September 24, 1952,the oldest son of Charles Omer and Hilda Teague Whitaker. He was a graduate of Forbush High School and Forsyth Technical Community College. Gary was retired from Yadkin Valley Telephone Company with over 36 years of service and also was a licensed Electrician for over 22 years. He attended Maplewood Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Adult Choir, enjoyed singing solos for Worship Service, and volunteered for various activities at the church. Gary volunteered with Yadkin Christian Ministries, volunteered with several charitable rides, and stood at the Memorial Wall at Smoking Harley-Davidson. He loved his Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle, and enjoyed the time he spent riding through the community or on different trips. Gary was a member of the Chapter B-2 Winston Wings Motorcycle Group, a lifetime member of the G.W.R.R.A. (Gold Wing Road Riders Association), and he served in different offices within the two clubs. Gary married Susan Allgood from Yadkinville December 18, 1971, who survives of the home. Also surviving are his daughter, Shelley Whitaker Harvey, and husband, Sam, of the home; his mother, Hilda T. Whitaker of Boonville; a brother Dennis Whitaker, and wife, Bridget; a nephew; a niece; and lots of friends whom he loved in his motorcycle family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday at Maplewood Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and Rev. Rick Page officiating. Burial will follow in Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
