Gorrell Clinton Prim

October 26, 1919 — February 10, 2015

Prim Yadkinville- Mr. Gorrell Clinton Prim, a loving father, grandfather, husband, and son passed away February 10, 2015 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Hester Prim, his wife, Marjorie Holton Prim, and a sister, Cecile Prim Brandon. Mr. Prim is survived by his son, Gorrell Clinton Prim, Jr. and wife, Valerie; granddaughters Joy and Julianna Prim; a daughter, Marjorie Elizabeth Prim Haynes and husband, Jim; granddaughter, Megan Haynes and great-grandsons, Devin and Kevin. Mr. Prim was born October 26, 1919 in Yadkin County, and was a 1938 graduate of Yadkinville High School, as well as a graduate of North Carolina State University. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army from 1942-1946. Captain Prim spent thirty months in the China, India, and Burma Theatre and later served as commander of a German Prisoner of War Camp in Winston-Salem. He was a member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and American Legion Post #505. Gorrell married Marjorie Holton, his neighbor and classmate in 1946. They were married for 55 years until her death in 2003. After his retirement from the tobacco market, they enjoyed traveling on different bus tours and playing bridge. Later in life he enjoyed listening to Bluegrass Music at Bojangles in Yadkinville and Jonesville. A quiet, reserved man, Gorrell always exemplified kindness and love to his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3:00-3:45 PM Friday, February 13, 2015 in the Family Life Center of Yadkinville United Methodist Church. A service of Celebration will be held in the Sanctuary at Yadkinville United Methodist Church 4:00 PM Friday, February 13, 2015 with Rev. Oliver Helsabeck, officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Grove Friends Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the N.C. National Guard Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Yadkinville United Methodist Church Mission Fund, PO Box 25, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
