Irene Ferguson Groce

Groce Hamptonville- Mrs. Irene Ferguson Groce passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. She was born March 22, 1913 in Surry County and enjoyed most of her almost 102 years gardening and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bynum and Carrie C. Ferguson, her husband, Farmer Groce, infant son, Ronnie, brother, Aubrey Ferguson, and a sister, Margaret Everidge. She is survived by a son, Roger (Lib) Groce, grandchildren, Von (Donna) Groce, Beverly (Jim) Buice. She had three great-grandchildren, Crystal (Mikey) Mullis, Landon Poplin, Caleb (Morgan) Poplin; great-great grandchild, Kaleigh Mullis, who was the sunshine that brightened Irene's later years and was known as "the little girl". The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM Friday in the Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Larry Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Swaims Baptist Church Cemetery.
