Howard Frank Gentry

Gentry Yadkinville- Mr. Howard Frank Gentry, 86, of Dudley Street passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at his home. He was born February 7, 1929 in Yadkin County to the late William Miles and Ollie Leona Pendry Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a farmer who enjoyed hiring lots of the local community kids to help work in his crops of tobacco. He was also the former co-owner and operator of Williams & Gentry Grocery Store and Meat Processing. During his years of working at the store, he loved all the friendships that were made, enjoyed making the sandwiches with extra meat and cheese, and was known for the fresh sausage he made for the community. He was a faithful member of Center United Methodist Church and attended as long as his health permitted. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Iva Helton, Ruth Mickles, Margaret Williams, and brothers, George Gentry and Lester Gentry. Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara Wooten Gentry, of the home; his children, Steve Gentry and wife, Sharon of Lewisville, Sandra G. Overby and husband, Clay of Yadkinville, David Gentry and wife, Melissa of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Chad Gentry, Emma Gentry, Christopher Overby, Andrew Overby, Stuart Gentry, Jordan Gentry, Jackson Gentry; sisters, Bernice G. Norman, Wilma G. Casstevens; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 3:30 PM Friday, February 20, 2015 at Center United Methodist Church by Dr. Bonnie Harris and Rev. Jimmy Lancaster. Burial will follow the service in Center Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Center United Methodist Church, 1400 Center Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Yadkin Valley Community Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, and to Jennifer Brown for all the loving care and support given to Mr. Gentry.
