Yadkinville Frank Hicks Walker "It's not the things we get, but the hearts we touch that will determine our success in life." Dr. Frank Hicks Walker,93, of Brookridge Baptist Retirement Community passed away on February 25, 2015. He was born in Elkin, North Carolina on July 30, 1921, to Lonnie Franklin Walker and Disa Hicks Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Louise Laffoon Walker, March 15,2013, by his sister, Dorothy Mae Standley,and by his niece, Sherry Simons. He is survived by a sister, Kay (Jesse) Haddock of Winston Salem. He is also survived by nieces Dottie Kay (Jim) Hill, Sarah Chaney, Libby Henry, and several great nieces and nephews. Dr. Walker graduated from Elkin High School, received a B.S. degree from Wake Forest College, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He is a charter member and past president of the Blue Ridge Dental Society and a charter member of the NC Chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Walker served in the Army for two years during World War II in the Army Dental Corps and was discharged with the rank of Captain. Dr. Walker operated a dental practice in Yadkinville until his retirement in 1990, having served his community for 44 years. He promoted preventive dentistry which demonstrated genuine concern and compassion for his patients. Dr. Walker was an active member of First Baptist Church of Yadkinville for 66 years, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and humble servant. He was a member of Yadkin Lodge No. 162 AF & AM and a Master Mason since 1944. He was a charter and current member of the Yadkinville Lions Club since 1950 and was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 1999. He delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered in the reading lab at Yadkinville Elementary School, was active in the American Red Cross, and a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. Dr. Walker served as a trustee of the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina for 15 years, a member of the Yadkin County Board of Health, on the Board of Directors of the Northwestern Bank of Yadkinville from 1970 until its merger with First Union and served as chairman until 1993. He served two years on the Alumni Council of Wake Forest University and was an avid fan of Wake Forest University. He was very supportive and encouraging to many young people in their education and their careers. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2015. With the Reverend Ken Boaz and Reverend Maurice Briggs at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
