Boonville Mrs. June J. Lakey, 78, won her battle with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body, 2 forms of dementia, on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. During her 78 years of life, her Lord constructed a beautiful, wonderful, caring person. She peacefully passed away at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. June was born June 23, 1936 in Yadkin County to Zeb and Fanny Johnson. She was a lovely, wonderful wife, mother, granny, sister-in-law, aunt and friend with a warm, compassionate heart, a tender spirit, a great sense of humor, and always a gracious smile. Her battle with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body, the outcome of which she willingly placed in the hands of her Lord, was fought with courage, dignity and grace. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Edward Lakey; children, Laddin Lakey and Heather (Randy) Hincher; grandchildren, Nathan Hinshaw and Keelin McArthur of Boonville, and Broze and Adan Lakey of Yadkinville and their mother Melissa; a brother, A.E. (Linda) Johnson; and a sister, Sue (Nolan) Brown. She also leaves to cherish her memory, numerous dear and precious in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of dear and lifelong friends. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 3:00PM at Boonville UMC with Rev. Jenny Stewart, Rev. Wally Hairston, and Rev. C.M. Worthy officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00PM prior to the service.
