Lester Souther

Hamptonville Mr. Lester Souther, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Mr. Souther was born May 13, 1938 in Wilkes County to Luther and Ethel Harris Souther. He was a loving dad and devoted husband who worked hard to support his family. Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed listening to gospel and bluegrass music. Lester was a longtime NASCAR fan and spent Sunday afternoons watching the race. He was a man of integrity and faith and will be dearly missed. 2Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. In addition to his parents, Mr. Souther was preceded in death by four brothers, five sisters; and a son-in-law, William John "Billy" VanWormer. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Hazelene Grant Souther; children, Roger Souther and wife Debra, Cathy Souther VanWormer, Lynn Souther and special friend Annette Oliver & daughter Kayley; and Tim Souther and wife Jennifer; grandsons, Matthew, Nick, and Seth; one sister, Ruth Vine "RV" Shew; three brothers, William A. "Bud" Souther, James Ernest "J.E." Souther and Luther Paul "LP" Souther, Jr.; and many special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 3:00PM at Sweet Home Baptist Church with Rev. RC Redmond officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Wilkes County. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM at the church prior to the service.
