Dorothy Edwards

Hamptonville- Dorothy Ashley Edwards, 75, passed away July 2, 2015 at Carolinas Continued Care Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was born on June 4, 1940 in Wilkes County, NC to the late Gurney and Faye Harris Ashley. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband James Hendrix Edwards. She was a graduate of East Wilkes High School and Forsyth Technical Community College. Dorothy was employed by Forsyth Memorial Hospital as a surgical assistant for many years until her health required her to take an early retirement. She relished each day in helping others heal and recover. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Tammie Edwards Church and husband, Gary of Charlotte, NC and son James Douglas Edwards and wife Brooke of Atlanta, GA. She is survived by seven grandchildren who were always the light of her life, Ashley Church Foley and husband Alex of Charlotte, NC, Lindsey, Zachary and Matthew Church of Charlotte, NC, Logan, Travis and Brady Edwards of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her brother Johnny Ashley and wife Mary of North Wilkesboro and sister, Margaret Draughn and husband Grady of Yadkinville, NC, and a brother in law Bill Edwards, of Elkin, NC. Dorothy also leaves behind a loyal feline companion, Abbey whom she also loved dearly. Over her life, Dorothy enjoyed serving in church and especially playing the organ and singing with follow worshipers. She was a member of Trinity Church in Jonesville, NC. She never met a stranger and never failed to offer encouragement, laughter and love to anyone, especially those who helped make her days brighter after the passing of her husband Jim. The family would especially like to thank Carolinas Continued Care Hospital in Pineville, NC, The Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Harrisburg, NC and New Horizons Home Care of Yadkinville, NC for all of their loving care and support. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Gentry Family Funeral Home in Yadkinville, NC with the Reverend Steve Swaim, the Reverend Jim Angle and Gary Church officiating. A private burial will take place at Rhonda Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm prior to the service at Gentry Family Funeral Home in Yadkinville, NC which is serving the Edwards family.
