Billy Joe Sams

Yadkinville Mr. Billy Joe Sams, 75, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015. Mr. Sams was born May 7, 1940 in Surry County to Raleigh and Nina Shelton Sams. He was a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Sams retired from Old Dominion Trucking Company in 2006 after working in the motor carrier transport industry for 42 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, which were the light of his life. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sams was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Angel; and five brothers, Earl, Carl, Whitey, Johnny, and Mac Sams. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patty Trivette Sams; two children, Britton (D'Lynn) Sams and Deckah (Kevin) Ratcliffe; four grandchildren, D'Kota, Bryce, and Brittney Sams and Paige Ratcliffe; and two sisters, Margie Barker and Madgoline Gwyn. A private service will be held for the family at a later date.
