Speer Jenkinstown - Roxie Louisa Bledsoe Speer, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born July 3, 1925 in Surry County to the late Grady Oscar Bledsoe and Alice Jenkins Bledsoe. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Speer; precious son-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Jester; brother, Oscar Bledsoe; sisters, Iva B. Jenkins and Ann B. Bryant. Roxie was employed at Tultex in Dobson for over 30 years, where she made many lifelong friends, whom she loved dearly. She was a master quilter, with her quilts going all over the Eastern United States. She loved her Lord, her family, and her church above all else. Surviving is her daughters, Dean Jester of Dobson, Joyce (Guy) Prim of Boonville; granddaughters, Tracy (Lenny) Castro of Dobson, Kelly Jester of Dobson, Lu Ann (Brad) Doss of Boonville, Becky (Sean) Vestal of Pfafftown, and Melissa (Darrell) Merritt of Dobson; great grandchildren, Taylor (Joseph) Vestal of Yadkinville, Brett Doss (Ryan Parks) of Charleston, SC, Will Castro of Dobson, Troy Castro of Dobson, McKenna Merritt of Dobson, Ryleigh Vestal of Pfafftown, Maycie Vestal of Pfafftown; a sister Faye Leupold of Elkin; several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Dobson by the Rev. Barlow Stanley and the Rev. Terry Coe. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Due to Roxie's love and devotion to her church, where she was a member for 77 years, memorials can be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 431 Jenkinstown Road, Dobson, NC 27017. As a final request, Roxie would ask each of you to please meet her by the stream on heaven's beautiful shore.
