Elkin Mr. James Claude Shaffner, 85, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Mr. Shaffner was born November 21, 1929 in Yadkin County to Jacob Ephraim and Amy Macemore Shaffner. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and NASCAR fan. Mr. Shaffner was a member of Little Richmond Baptist Church. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He came back as a Cpl and served as MP at Fort Stewart, GA. Mr. Shaffner was discharged with honors on November 20, 1953. He was a member of VFW Post 7794. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shaffner was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Edward; four brothers, Paul Edward, William Howard, Jesse Alton, and Jacob Earl; two sisters, Dorothy Mullis and Ruth Blake. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Margerette Johnson Shaffner; four sons, Bobby Dean (Barbara) Grubb, Keith Warren Grubb, Bobby Ray (Sandy) Shaffner, John Lee Shaffner; four daughters, Shirley (Leonard) Stewart, Angela (Mike) Eagle, Rebecca (Mike) Greene, Marie (Tim) Menscer, fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Shaffner Byrd; brother-in-law, Henry Blake; and sister-in-law, Lucy Shaffner. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Jonesville. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 2:00PM at Little Richmond Baptist Church with Rev. JV Lowe, Rev. Phil Goble, and Jimmy Stuller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 7794 and Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Richmond Baptist Church, 164 Kitty Way, Elkin, NC 28621 or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Hugh Chatham, Select and Forsyth Hospitals and Woltz Hospice Home for their loving care.
