Carter Boonville- Mr. David Coleman Carter, 85, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Longtown Road passed away peacefully Friday, October 2, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Carter was born March 1, 1930 in Surry County to the late Coy Watson and Molly Birch Carter. Mr. Carter was former co-owner of Carter & Kirk Paving Company of Jonesville, former owner of Swan Creek Farm Supply of Jonesville, and was currently the owner of Carter Country Store of Mocksville,Oak Grove Nursery in Hamptonville. He loved the outdoors especially fishing or spending time with his cattle. Mr. Carter loved working with the public and serving his community where he was loved by so many of his friends. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Haynes Carter on May 9, 2003; by his sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Jim Beckham, Ruth and Clarence Carter; and by two brothers, Coy Carter and Clyde Carter. Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis Wilcox and her wife, Marsha Floyd of Lewisville; grandson, Adam Coleman Wilcox and wife, Kelly; great-grandson, Eli Carter Wilcox; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Carter and Elizabeth Carter; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 North of Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Tilden Bridges. Burial will follow in the Longtown Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to Trinity Elms and Forsyth Palliative Care Unit for the special care given to Mr. Carter, and especially to the family of Marsha Floyd for their special care and loving support given to Mr. Carter and his family, throughout the years.
