Boonville Mr. Delmer Lee Simmons, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at his home. Mr. Simmons was born March 22, 1927 in Yadkin County to Franklin Eugene and DeEtte Bray Simmons. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during WWII. Upon his return to Yadkin County, he became a tobacco and cattle farmer. Mr. Simmons was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon for more than 50 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Mina Wagoner Simmons; three brothers, Lowell "Thomas" Simmons, Hughes "Arnold" Simmons and James "Berlie" Simmons; and three sisters, Lois Tharrington, Josephine Daye, and Lucy Puryear. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Iannotte and husband John; two granddaughters, Ashley and Lauren Iannotte; nephews, Greg Puryear and wife Pebble and Dale Puryear and wife Dara; and a lifelong childhood friend and neighbor, Eunice Robbins. Delmer was very fortunate to have a large family of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 2:00PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Stewart and Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin, 320 West Maple Street Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Mtn.
