Thomas Howard Reavis

Reavis Hamptonville- Mr. Thomas Howard "Tom" Reavis, 80, of Lone Hickory Road passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at his home. He was born April 27, 1935 in Iredell County one of 13 children born to the late Melver William and Estelle Leona Cooke Reavis. Mr. Reavis was a graduate of Harmony High School Class of 1954 and spent several years in service to his country as a veteran of the US Army and the Army National Guard. He worked for several years at Hanes Hoisery in Winston-Salem and then worked at Stroh's Brewery where he retired with 30 years of service, and was a member of Teamsters Local #391. Mr. Reavis was a member of Hanes Grove United Methodist Church where he served the church faithfully through the years as a Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Reavis was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and neighbor to the community. He enjoyed helping others and especially loved the years he spent coaching softball for his daughters and various teams in the area. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 6 sisters and 4 brothers. Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Livengood Reavis, of the home; his loving daughters, Jeanie R. Houston, and husband, Rick, of Hamptonville, Angie R. King, and husband, Jonathan, also of Hamptonville; his grandchildren whom he loved greatly, Denver Rakes, Jesse Houston, Adam Houston, Lauren Rakes, Kendra King; his sister, Marie Reavis Windsor, Winston-Salem; brother, James Patrick "Pat" Reavis, Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be 3:00 PM Friday at Mountain View Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Tucker and Rick Houston. He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. His graveside service will follow in Hanes Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maplewood Baptist Church, PO Box 576, Yadkinville, NC, 27055, and they will be divided between the youth of Maplewood Baptist Church of Yadkinville and Mountain View Baptist Church of Hamptonville.
