Mrs. Martha Jane Long Matthews, 93, passed away Friday December 18, 2015. She was born March 12, 1922 in Forsyth County to the late Thomas Rossevelt and Maggie Stout Long. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. She was retired from AT&T, she loved to visit with friends and family, playing Bridge, and working word puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clyde W. Matthews; a son Clyde W. Matthews, Jr.; four sisters Helen Boles, Joann Southern, Nancy Sturgel, Mary Colbert; two brothers Howard Long, Thomas Long, Jr. Surviving are a daughter Brenda (Derris) Foster; a son John (Chris) Matthews; six grandchildren Lana (Stephen) Young, Todd (Shela) Foster, Jennifer (Matthew) Pruitt, David (Laura) Foster, Nicole Foster, Janel (Lincoln) Steelman; seven great grandchildren Melissa (Jeremy) Reese, Graham Young, Joseph Foster, Carson Pruitt, Saylor Pruitt, Rutledge Steeman, Emmerson Steelman; one great great-granddaughter Neomi Reese; a brother Robert Long. She will lie in state from 2:30 -3:00 PM Tuesday December 22, 2015 at Prospect United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM at the church by the Rev Robin Fitzgerald. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the nurses and staff of Oak Forest Rehab in Stanleyville for the loving care given to Mrs. Matthews.
