Ben Williams

Yadkinville Mr. Ben Williams, 86, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Williams was born February 13, 1929 in Yadkin County to Robert Fred and Lula Casstevens Williams. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart. Mr. Williams enjoyed farming, gardening, and fishing, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He took pride in rescuing and caring for animals in need. He was a very good cook, and often cooked Sunday lunch for the family, serving his specialty, cornbread and "smashed taters". Although he was uncomfortable, Mr. Williams never complained throughout his illness, and was as brave in death as he was in life. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his loving wife, Laura Ellen Seivers Williams; and his twin brother, Glen Williams. He is survived by his five children, Denise (Steve) Wagoner, Debbie (Hudson) Burton, Danny (Sherrie) Williams, Cindy (Randy) Holcomb, and Chris (Sandy) Williams; eight grandchildren, Seth (Sacha) Wagoner, Evan (Whitney) Wagoner, Luke Wagoner, Will Burton, Anna (Jason) Smith, Davy Burton, Misty (Evan) Wooten, and Allison (John) Kessler; eleven great grandchildren, Jack, Henry, and Ben Wagoner, Zoey and Riley Burton, Everett Smith, Reagan, Reese, and Rylie Wooten, Will and Daniel Kessler; one brother, Robert (Doris) Williams; one sister, Annie Lee Boaz; one aunt, Cecile Worrell;two feline companions, Dewey and Agnes; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11:00AM at Center UMC with Rev. Andy Lambert, Rev. Wayne Swisher, and Rev. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 9:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal shelter, The ALS Association Gift Processing Center PO Box 6051 Albert Lea, MN 56007, or to Yadkin Christian Ministries PO Box 204, Yadkinville NC 27055. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Forsyth Medical Center and Dr. Thomas Wolfe for the amazing care given to Mr. Williams, and to a special friend, Keith Kearns for all the visits, Sunday morning breakfasts, and for just being there. Also to Alex Shugart, Steve Macemore, and Bob Adams for helping Mr. Williams with his garden, and bringing in his last harvest.
