David Lee Childress

Boonville Mr. David Lee Childress, 62, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Childress was born August 17, 1953 in Iredell County to John Ervin and Myrtle McCollum Childress. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, Mr. Childress was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Childress; an infant daughter, Marty Childress; and two brothers, William and Robert Childress. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Darlene Johnson Childress; two sons, Junior (Dana) Childress and Mickey Childress; five grandchildren, Michael Gregory (Jenna Swaim), Jay Hardison, Kaleb Brigmon, Joshua Childress, Taydance Royall; one great grandchild, Adalyn Gregory; two brothers, Alan Childress and Bobby (Sharon) Childress; and five sisters, Lucille Caudle, Betty Bell, Ruth Carrington, Roxie Allgood, and Wilma Finney; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 12, 2016 at 2:00PM at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Tommy Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Yadkinville Cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn.
