Helen Gladys Carter Kiger, 84, on February 12, 2016, after a final period of trial, Helen retired to rest and, as she promised, wait for her loved ones to join her where souls do not grow weary and bodies do not grow old. She was born October 7, 1931 to the late Thad Carter and Ada Mae Yates Carter. Her loved ones grieve, but celebrate the gift of her life, a life uniquely characterized by uncommon intelligence and wisdom, qualities easily overlooked, hidden in her plain-spoken, down-to-earth words of folk wisdom and simple faith. Her presence is still felt in the lingering glow of her bright-eyed exuberance and irrepressible enthusiasm, an enthusiasm she shared, just as readily, with friends and strangers. Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday February 17, 2016 at Swaims Baptist Church by Rev. Jerry Shelton and speaker Hugh Goforth. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday February 16, 2016 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Among the closest loved ones celebrating Helen's life are her children William Kiger (Lynn Gilbert), Kay Kiger (Hugh Goforth), Larry (Angel) Kiger; grandchildren Michael Goforth, Kevin Goforth, Bradley (Tabitha) Kiger, Jerad Kiger, Craig (Kelly) Kiger; great- grandchildren Bradley Goforth, Addy Gilbert, Adrain Kiger, Annabelle Kiger, Boston Kiger; a brother Donald Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ranson Jesper Kiger; a sister Hazel Gentry; three brothers Ray Carter, Grady Carter, and Harold Carter. The family would like to say a very special thanks to Special nephew Barry (Carol) Carter, special nieces Linda Adams, Lisa Hopkins, friends at West Yadkin Elementary School, Glenn's Restaurant, and a special friend Junior Poarch.
