Steelman Advance- Mr. Billy Hoover Steelman, 87, formerly of Yadkinville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Steelman was born May 15, 1928 in Yadkin County to the late Harding and Minnie Sharpe Steelman. He worked several years as a farmer, retired from Hanes Hoisery, and was a department manager at Food Fair. He was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church, Harmon Masonic Lodge #420, A.F.&A.M., and a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Army. Mr. Steelman loved reading his Bible and especially loved spending time with his family either while doing devotions or together at meals on Sunday nights. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Leta Grey Hoots Steelman, who passed away December 1, 2015; and by 4 sisters, Mary Lee Steelman, Dora Eads, Gladys Wooten, an infant sister, Sallie Steelman; and 4 brothers, Lawrence Steelman, Clyde Steelman, T.H. Steelman, and Paul Steelman. Surviving are his devoted daughters, Debbie Steelman, Janice (Jim) Weakland; 5 grandchildren, Hannah, Zac, and Jacob Weakland, Maribeth (Chris) Duggins, Mollie (Travis) Schultz; 2 great-grandchildren, Collier Schultz, Graham Duggins; and nurmerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Sandy Springs Baptist Church, 2930 Sandy Springs Road, Harmony, NC 28634. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM Sunday by Rev. David Kiser and Military Rites given by NC Memorial National Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Sandy Springs Baptist Church, 2930 Sandy Springs Church Road, Harmony, NC 28634 or to the donors choice.
