Betty Alice Beamer Atkinson

Betty Alice Beamer Atkinson, 89, went home to be with her Jesus on, Sunday February 28, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born February 4, 1927 in Surry County to the late Ed Richard Beamer and Martha Ann Hodge Beamer. Betty was a faithful member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. She loved her church and her church family. She was a wonderful mother, who loved her children. She told people about them wherever she went. She loved to quilt, garden and was an awesome cook. What she loved the most was when all her family came home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman Ben Atkinson; son- in- law Donny Hutchens; sister Jenny Marie Beamer; brothers Ernest Beamer, Grady Beamer, and Fred Beamer. Surviving are her children Edith (Roscoe) Beck, Peggy (Mark) Busick, Gerald (Belinda) Atkinson, Dwight (Aileen) Atkinson, Kent (Rhonda) Atkinson, Nancy (Dale) Jester, Leon (Jennifer) Atkinson, Neal (Susan) Atkinson, Pam Hutchens, Karen (Ricky) Lovelace; 26 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister Sylvia (Jim) Forsyth; three brothers John Beamer, Frank (Jane) Beamer, Billy (Laura) Beamer. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 8:30 PM Wednesday March 2, 2016 at Gentry Family funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Solid Rock Baptist Church by her Pastor Robert Wiles. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thanks to Mtn. Valley Hospice (her nurse and niece Melinda Cockerham) and to the staff at Woltz Hospice Home.
