Hutchens Yadkinville- Mrs. Shirley Ann Reynolds Hutchens, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from complications associated with Alzheimer's Disease- a disease she battled for nearly ten years. Shirley was born in Yadkin County on April 18, 1940 in the Shacktown Community, where she lived her entire life. Shirley graduated from Yadkinville High School in 1958, Flora MacDonald College (St. Andrew's College) in 1962 and Medical Technology School (Bowman Gray School of Medicine) in 1962. After graduation from Medical Technology School, she began working at Bowman Gray School of Medicine and remained there for 40 years, retiring in 2002. Shirley enjoyed many things in life- basket weaving, painting, knitting, sewing (making the majority of Traci's clothes growing up and for special occasions) gardening (both flower and vegetable), canning and trying new cake and cookie recipes which we all enjoyed. She also enjoyed those Sunday trips to the mountains with her family. She is survived by her husband and lifelong friend, Alvin, whom she married on December 23, 1961; one daughter, Traci (Jimmy) Presnell; two brothers, David (Faye) Reynolds and Dale Reynolds; one brother-in-law, Monty Hutchens. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Nell B. Reynolds, brother-in-law, Max Hutchens and sister-in-law, Peggy Hutchens. Shirley's family would like to thank Dr. Ray Morrow who cared for Shirley throughout her illness and his staff at Wake Forest University Internal Medicine and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their special care during Shirley's last days. A very special thank you to Jimmy- it was his care and support that allowed Shirley to remain at home throughout her illness. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2016 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. There will be a private service in the Spring to celebrate her favorite season of the year. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N.
