Ethel Pauline Griffin

"To Everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven" In the early hours of Tuesday, March 15, 2016 heaven gained an angel, Ethel Pauline Griffin, 100, of East Bend passed away peacefully at her home. Ethel was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Sanford Griffin. She was born January 17, 1916 in Yadkin County to the late Edgar and Myrtle Hutchens Wooten. Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother, babysitter, and homemaker to her family. She enjoyed her time with family, and was a great role model and teacher to her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Baltimore United Methodist Church, as long as her health permitted. One of her favorite past times was adoring Coach K and watching Duke University Basketball Games. Preceding her in death were 2 infant daughters, her brothers, Ralph, Benbow, Edgar Vernon, and sisters, Gypsy, Lillian, and Vicy Gay. Surviving are her loving children, Billy (Debbie) Griffin, Yadkinville; Ray (Willie) Griffin, Ricky (Debi) Griffin, Judy (Jim) Hardy, all of East Bend; as well as multiple generations of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who knew and loved her as "Maw Maw". From her 4 children, there are 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her surviving siblings that knew her as "Sister", Cora Hutchens, Barbara Gentry, Allen Wooten, and Edsel Wooten. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at Baltimore United Methodist Church by Rev. Kelly Geise. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses with Hospice of Rowan County, her special caregiver, Terri Williams, and special friend, Linda Lineberry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either, Hospice of Rowan, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Baltimore United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2419 Baltimore Road, East Bend, NC 27018, or to Meals on Wheels of Yadkin County, PO Box 309, Boonville, NC 27011.
