Hubert Lee Gregory

Yadkinville Mr. Hubert Lee Gregory, 85, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, March 19, 2016. Mr. Gregory was born March 10, 1931 in Wilkes County to Lee Gwyn and Vella Sparks Gregory. He served in the US Army in Berlin during the Korean Conflict. After returning home to Yadkin County, Hubert started working for Hanes Hosiery, and after retiring from Hanes, he worked at Ithica in Wilkesboro as a department manager. Being involved in his community was always important to Hubert. He served in several positions on the Yadkin County Mental Health Board. In 1997, Hubert was elected as mayor of Yadkinville and proudly served until his death. He was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his son, Binky Lee Gregory; a stepfather, Clarence Hutchens; sisters, Margie Gregory and Jane Hutchens; and a brother, LG Gregory. He is survived by a sister, Shelvie (Homer) Creed; brothers, Jim (Verna) Gregory and Locksley Hutchens; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Mistel. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A funeral service honoring Hubert's life will be conducted at 7:00PM in Gentry Family Chapel with Rev. Kenny Gooden officiating. Burial will follow on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 11:00AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Gooden and Rev. Bill Hale officiating. Military honors will be provided by NC National Guard Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 2401 Nebo Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
