Larry Franklin Freeman

September 15, 1949 — March 24, 2016

Freeman Jonesville - Larry Franklin "Fred" Freeman traded in his years of health issues for a brand new body and eternal life with Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was born in Elkin, NC on September 15, 1949 to the late Frank and Ruby Transou Freeman. Larry graduated from Starmount High School in the class of 1968. He served as a signalman in the US Army at Ft. Bragg and was deployed to Panama. Larry was also the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Larry worked for Pepsi Cola in Jonesville, Wilkes County Sheriff Dept. and he apprenticed as a drywall finisher under the late Paul Martin. Later he opened Freeman's Drywall which he maintained for 20 years. Larry was an avid golfer, fisherman, and deer hunter. He loved cooking, gardening, and SHS Football where he helped to build the field house and press box. Left to carry on his legacy is his wife, Kathy Nelson Freeman, of the home. Together they enjoyed the beach, traveling, and time with family. He will be greatly missed by his faithful dog, Queen, as well. His children, Wendy (Steven) Mosteller of Hamptonville, Heath (Callie) Freeman of Cape Carteret, Michelle (Jim) Benton of Boonville and Holly (Tim) Benton of Ronda, will miss his endless advice, love, and help with anything from electrical work to fixing our fishing rods. One of Larry's favorite things to do were cookouts with his thirteen grandchildren, Danielle, Jordyn, and Melia Mosteller, Emerson and Everett Freeman, Courtney (Wesley) Shover, West Holbrook, Lesley, Adien, and Urijah Benton, Ty and Kenlee Benton, who were his pride and joy. He also adored his two great grandsons, Penn and Croft Shover, and was so excited to hear of the upcoming arrival of his 1st great granddaughter, Story Shover, in August 2016. Larry also leaves behind a most precious sister, Libby (Louis) Shore of Yadkinville, a sister, Ruby Jean Cox of Yadkinville, and a brother, Eddie (Carol) Mastin of Alabama. He was so happy and thankful for the time they had to spend together of his recent trip with Libby to Eddie's home. Larry will be fondly remembered for his generosity to others, his love for his family and friends, and always being there when we needed him for anything. One of his favorite saying was "Did you get the good out of it?" We are all resting in the assurance that Larry "got the good out" of this life and had moved on to a life free from all pain and suffering. A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Arlington First Baptist Church in Jonesville, NC by the Rev Kenny Gooden. Military Honors will be provided by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are sent to Yadkin VFW Post 10346, c/o Mr. Larry Crews, Post Commander, 4328 Wilhelm Road, Boonville, NC 27011.
