Larry Jean Matthews

Matthews East Bend - Larry Jean Matthews, 69, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at his home. He was born October 1, 1946 to the late Floyd Matthews and Minnie Pendry Matthews. Larry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always enjoyed spending time around his family, especially his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. Larry retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Long Matthews; children, Rhonda (Ernest) Johnson, Gene (Marnie) Matthews; grandchildren, Kayla Sale, Trent Coble, Sidney Matthews, Sarah Matthews, Derek Matthews; brothers, Arzie (Dot) Matthews, Don (Willie Mae) Matthews, Dean (Sue) Matthews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robin Fitzgerald. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rights by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. Memorials can be made to Prospect United Methodist Church, 3541 Smithtown Road, East Bend, NC 27018.
