Wenona Fleming Witter

Witter Boonville- Mrs. Wenona Fleming Witter, 93, of River Road died peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 23, 1922 in Yadkin County to the late Herbert and Sallie Johnson Fleming. Wenona grew up on a farm, was their only child, and she prided herself as a "self-made woman". She owned and operated a men's and women's clothing store in Boonville for several years. Wenona taught herself to paint and loved painting over 100 different paintings for her family and friends. She was able to travel to 88 countries, 7 continents, Antarctica, and made over 100 photo albums of her trips. Wenona loved to sing, dance, and was lovingly known as "The Hat Lady" due to her wearing a hat for almost every occasion. She was a member of Boonville United Methodist Church and the women's Circle Group. She had also been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda, Fla. and was a choir member for both churches. Wenona was a member of the D.A.R., and an avid bridge player. She had a natural flare for interior design and helped to decorate several First Federal Bank buildings along the gulf coast of Florida. Through the years she has lived in Boonville, NC, Punta Gorda, Fla., Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem, NC, and lived the last 9 years of her life with her daughter, Dawn Johnson and son-in-law, Tommy Johnson in Boonville, NC., along with her oldest grandchild, Sally Hobson Simpson, who has been her caregiver for the last 9 years, and has been a special blessing. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Eugene Crissman, Solomon A. Kaye and Donald R. Witter, Jr. Surviving are Wenona's 4 children, Judy C. Kiser, and husband, Dr. John Kiser; Dawn C. Johnson and husband, Tommy Johnson; Daphne C. Trent, and husband, Wayne Trent; and Fleming Crissman, and wife, Audrey Crissman. Also surviving are her 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren which allowed her to have 2 sets of 5 generations in her family. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 AM Monday, April 18, 2016 at Boonville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Her Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM Monday in the sanctuary of Boonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Jenny Stewart. Interment will follow in Boonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boonville United Methodist Building Fund, PO Box 178, Boonville, NC 27011. The family would like to thank Dawn and Tommy Johnson, Sally Hobson Simpson, New Horizon's Health Care (especially Michelle Benton and Vicki Martinez) and Mountain Valley Hospice (especially Becky Trivette) for their wonderful care.
