Jon Maris Sunderman

Sunderman Yadkinville - Jon Maris Sunderman of The Huntsville Community, 70, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born October 16, 1945 in Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Lehman "Bunny" Edward Sunderman and Bonnie Smalley Sunderman. Surviving are his wife, Janet Rae Sofley Sunderman; children, Benjamin Allen (Beth) Sunderman, Sarah Elizabeth (Travis) Tate; grandchildren, Allie Ann Sunderman, Emery Claire Sunderman, Brody Edward Tate, Gunner Maris Tate; sisters, Tricia Getty, Kathleen Gardner; brothers, Richard "Dick" (Mary) Sunderman, Gene (Karen) Sunderman; several nieces and nephews. Jon graduated from Windom High School and Mankato State University in Minnesota. After graduating from college, he served in the United States Navy for four years on the USS Independence. He was employed by the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, and served on the North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union advisory board for several years. He was a member of Farmington Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon and assistant treasurer. His funeral Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Farmington Baptist Church by the Rev. Phillip Brande. Burial will follow at the Historic Huntsville Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at Farmington Baptist Church.
