Willie "Dub" Agustus Phillips, Jr.

Yadkinville Mr. Willie "Dub" Agustus Phillips, Jr. 88, passed away Wednesday, June 08, 2016 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Phillips was born June 12, 1927 in Surry County to Willie and Famie Gentry Phillips. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Silver Star recipient. Mr. Phillips was a member of American Legion Post 336. He was a member of Grace Bible Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Hamby; and three brothers, Garvey, Bob, and Billie Phillips. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Tommye Myers Phillips; one sister, Lib (Verlin) Cheek; special niece and nephew, Sherron and Rick Phillips; and a goddaughter, Dana Stratton. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 10, 2016 at 3:00PM at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. Junior Thompson and Rev. Chris Thore officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchells Chapel UMC cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church, PO Box 2075 Yadkinville, NC 27055.
