Jack Fleming Shore

December 11, 1933 — July 7, 2016

Shore Yadkinville - Jack Fleming Shore, 82, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016 at his home. He was born December 11, 1933 into a multigenerational farming family in Yadkin County to the late Luther and Thelma Reece Shore. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Moxley Shore; sister, Susan Steelman (Frank, deceased). Surviving are his children, Tommy (Cathy) Shore of Yadkinville, Robert Shore (Brian Caldwell) of Charlotte, Louis (Libby) Shore of Yadkinville and Teresa (Mark) Welborn of Boonville; grandchildren, Garrett (Anna) Welborn, Mitch Welborn, Mason Welborn, Samantha Welborn, Craig (Sophy) Shore, Gwyn Shore, Luke Shore, Jake Shore; great grandson, Maddox Welborn; brother, Wiley (Shelby) Shore; sister, Ann Smitherman (Derl, deceased). Jack lived each day to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Jack knew how to make anyone comfortable, was quick to tell a funny story and often used himself as the brunt of the joke. Some of these stories were told at Ben's Store, a gathering place for farmers and friends in the community. On one occasion, Luther found Wiley and Jack at the store and made a comment that if someone had new irrigation equipment, today would be a good time to use it. Without another word, the boys were back at work in the field. He was also known for the gentle care that he gave to his beloved wife, Martha who struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for decades. When Martha could no longer put on her makeup, Jack lovingly helped Martha with her lipstick, but decided he was a better farmer than a makeup artist. Their marriage was filled with love, respect and faith. They enjoyed being together running the farm business and traveling extensively. They worked together leading the local 4H club and showing cows at the Dixie Classic and State Fair. One of his proudest moments was when Teresa's steer received the Grand Champion prize at the State Fair. Jack was dedicated to his community, his church and was an early innovator in modern farming practices. Like his father, Luther Shore, Jack worked hard on the farm from sunrise to sunset. He even managed to make pickles and can green beans with his wife Martha during the times when he was not in the field. Jack loved to make iced tea and always had a pitcher of tea in the refrigerator to enjoy with a tomato sandwich in the summer. Even though Jack was a full time farmer, he was also committed to community service and advocating for agriculture. He was a servant leader and life-long member of Deep Creek Friends Meeting. He was a Yadkin County Commissioner from 1974-1982 and served as Vice-Chairman. He served on the Yadkin County Board of Elections for 20 years and as chair for 18 years. He was President of the Yadkin County Farm Bureau from 1987-2004, served on the county board since 1970 and the State board since 2000. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean conflict. Jack was active in the County Cattlemen's Association, serving as President and in many other offices. He is past President for the NC State Cattlemen's Association, where he also served on several committees of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and the National Livestock and Meat Board. He was inducted into the NC State Fair Hall of Fame in 1998, recognizing his statewide service to North Carolina Agriculture. Most of all, Jack cherished his family and was lovingly known as Daddy Jack by his children and grandchildren. The house was filled with beautiful family portraits, and each child held a special place in the hearts of Mama Jack and Daddy Jack. Jack will be missed by all of his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Many priceless memories will now replace a life that was well done by a good and faithful servant. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Deep Creek Friends Meeting by the Rev. Randy Quate and the Rev. Georgianne Hartline. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rights by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Memorials can be made to Deep Creek Friends Meeting, 1140 Deep Creek Friends Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Shore Family.
