PHYLLIS MURPHY TEAGUE East Bend, NC Phyllis Murphy Teague, 90, passed away Wednesday August 3, 2016. She was born September 20, 1925 in Yadkin County to George and Pearlie Norman Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Everette "Whitey" Teague; a sister, Freddie Murphy; and a brother, Norman Murphy. She was a graduate of City Memorial Hospital School of Nursingclass of 1947. Her early nursing career brought a variety of experience, including serving as Director of Nursing at the Graylyn Psychiatric Unit. When Graylyn closed, she joined the nursing staff at NC Baptist Hospital January 1, 1959. She retired December 31, 1990, after 32 years of dedicated service as Director of Nursing. Her steady hand of leadership provided guidance for the evening shift, and was a source of strength for all departments of the Medical Center. The solution to every problem was to call Mrs. Teague. Mrs. Teague enjoyed travel, painting and crafting, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially spoiling her great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known by her family as "Ma Maw Phyllis." Ma Maw Phyllis' cakes were the best in the world. She prepared these quite often for her family, neighbors and church functions. No one will ever be able to bake a cake like Ma Maw Phyllis. Her family will always cherish her and all of the wonderful and loving times they shared. Mrs. Teague was a member of New Home United Methodist Church and served the church in many ways through dedicating her time and talents. She served as the president of the UMW for many years. Mrs. Teague is survived by a dearest friend and colleague, Sara Richardson; daughter, Linda Taylor Thomas; two granddaughters, Amie (Scott) Brendle and Angie (Jay) Funk; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin Brendle, William Watson-Brendle, Julie Brendle, Taylor Brendle, Jacob Funk and Jessica Funk; and numerous other loving and caring relatives, neighbors and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 11 at 6PM in Davis Memorial Chapel at NC Baptist Hospital. Rev. Jay Foster and Rev. Dallas Prestwood will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bill Richardson Scholarship Fund, Office of Development & Alumni Affairs, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157A fund which Mrs. Teague supported, that provides scholarship support to current medical students at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Memorials may also be made to a charity of the donor`s choice. Free parking is available in the medical center employee parking deck across the street from Davis Chapel Hawthorne Road.You can cross at street level and go up the steps to enter Davis Chapel directly. In the case of inclement weather, or to avoid stairs, acovered pedestrian bridge on level 1 of the parking deck will allow you cross over the street into the medical center. To get to level 1 enter the parking deck from the Hawthorne Road entrance, turn left immediately and then turn right immediately to go up the ramp. Turn right again to go up another ramp and then you will be on level 1. The pedestrian bridge is just to the left of the elevators. As you cross over Hawthorne Road using the pedestrian bridge you will see Davis Chapel to your left. At the end of the pedestrian bridge continue straight into the medical center. Turn left at the first hallway where you will go up a slight incline. Proceed another 50 feet and Davis Chapel will be on your left. There will also be signs that you can follow.
