Annie l> Blackburn

Hamptonville On Friday, August 19, 2016 God gently called our dearly beloved Annie L. Blackburn from labor to eternal rest after a courageous battle with multiple chronic illnesses. Annie was the daughter of the late Madge Blackburn and John Lindsey, both of Hamptonville, North Carolina. She graduated from Lincoln Heights High School in Wilkesboro, North Carolina and Winston Salem State University. Her journey in the educational arena began in 1945, serving as a school teacher in the Yadkin and Iredell County Schools. She continued her graduate studies at A&T State University and North Carolina Central University. During the summer months she worked with children and adults at the Banneker Recreation Center in Washington, DC for several years. After retiring, because of her excellent math skills, Annie tutored some of her former students. She attributed her success to patience, determination, and her love for children. All the children in the family wanted to visit Cousin Ann's house because they knew they would get a can of soda and a sweet treat. Annie enjoyed a full and family centered-life with devoted cousins, Celeste Blackburn, Harold Smith, Duane and Lisa Smith, Duane Smith Jr., Bradley Smith, and Marcellene B. Lindsey. Her life was one of unwavering devotion and dedication. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church until she became disabled. She loved her church and always wanted to know what was happening there. Her smile was infectious, her love was contagious, and we are all better for having had her in our lives. A funeral service to celebrate Annie's life will be conducted Monday, August 22, 2016 at 2:00PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Tyrone Redmon and Minister Reggie Redmon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM at the church prior to the service. Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
