William Henry Lashmit

Yadkinville Mr. William Henry "Bill" Lashmit, 94, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illnessHe was the oldest of 15 children. Mr. Lashmit was born August 6, 1922 in Yadkin County to Henry and Thelma Sain Lashmit. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII from December 1942 to September 1945. He served in France, Italy, and Sicily. Mr. Lashmit was honored to be chosen to be on the 10th Triad Flight of Honor to Washington DC on May 18, 2011 to see the WWII Memorial. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lashmit was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Hendrix Lashmit; a son, Robert White; a great grandson, Deklan Hardy; four brothers, John, Thomas, Robert, and Allen Lashmit; and five sisters, Roberta Hendrix, Ruth Baity, Louise Groce, Frances Allen, and Shirley Gray. He is survived by a daughter, Diane (Richard) Vogler; daughter-in-law, Thelma White; four granddaughters, Tammy (Mark) Cain, Susie (Chris) Hershey, Gina (Mike) Boone, and Sheila Vogler (Russell McGraw); five great grandchildren, Brittany McDaniel, Matthew Cain, Katie Boone, Courtland Hardy, and Landon Hardy; one great-great granddaughter, Addison McDaniel; a brother, Harold Lashmit; sisters, Ella Gray Layman, Dottie Shore, Jean Phillips, Alice Pickett; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, September 5, 2016 at 2:00PM at Gentry Family Chapel. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive visitation from 1:00 to 2:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
