Smith East Bend - Katie Frances Hardy Smith, 72, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born August 19, 1944 in Surry County to the late James Fletcher Hardy and Nellie Jane Hutchens Hardy. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jessie James Hardy, Ruebin Hardy, Claude Hardy, Robert Hardy; sisters, Annie Hardy Flynn, Viola Hardy Draughn, Billie Hardy Atkins. Surviving are her husband, Billy Joe Smith; children, Joe (Beth) Smith, Sandy (Johnny) Starling, Tammy (Gary) Myers, Cindy Smith; grandchildren, Gary (Kristin) Myers, Sarah (Lucas) Matthews, Danny (Amy) Smith, Emily (Joseph) Crissman; great grandchildren, Kamdin Myers, Ryleigh Myers, Charley Joe Crissman, Carter Matthews; sisters, Maye (Lawrence) Adams, Mary Jane (Jack) Collins; special friends, Diane Davis and Cathy Kirk. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church by the Rev. Vann Harrell and the Rev. Brian Poindexter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
