David Gray Brown

Brown East Bend- Mr. David Gray Brown, 77, of Forbush Road passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at his home. He was born October 17, 1938 in Surry County to the late Fred and Rosa Hutchens Brown. Mr. Brown was retired with 30 years of service from Piedmont Airlines and US Airways, and was a veteran of the US Air Force. Mr. Brown enjoyed hunting deer, going trout fishing in the New River, and loved spending time with family and friends either at his chicken stews or his Mountain House in Sparta. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Robert "Yogi" Brown, his 3 brothers, Clarence Brown, Cecil Brown, Kenneth Brown; and his father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Opal Winters. Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Doris Winters Brown, of the home; 2 daughters, Lisa (Mickey) Hauser, Yadkinville; Kathy (Vernon) Wright, East Bend; a son, Michael (Vickie) Brown, Jonesville; 10 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillie Hutchens, East Bend; and 2 brothers, Paul Brown, Jonesville; Tinker Jester of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM Thursday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Chris Hauser and Rev. James Miles. Burial will follow in the Yadkin Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
