Helen Mathews "Granny" Bluemel

Bluemel Yadkinville- Mrs. Helen Mathews “Granny” Bluemel, 93, formerly of the Courtney Community, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was born May 20, 1923 in Cabell County, West Virginia to the late Garland and Murmel Bryant Mathews. Mrs. Bluemel was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church, she loved to ride motorcycles and roller coasters, and loved to travel and shop. She lived her life as a loving homemaker, and blessed others by her wonderful biscuits, gravy, fried apples, and German Chocolate Cake. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Geneva McGuire and Virginia Merritt. Surviving are her children, David Lowe, Connie (James) Branham, Robert (Linda) McCoy, Laurie Bennett; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Johnson; 2 brothers, Garland Mathews, Jr. and Tommy Mathews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev.
