East Bend- Mr. Edsel Burke Wooten, Sr., 91, of Old US Highway 421 East passed away peacefully Monday, October 24, 2016 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born May 15, 1925 in Yadkin County to the late Edgar and Myrtle Hutchens Wooten. Mr. Wooten was retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with over 30 years of service. He was an active member of Enon Baptist Church where he served the church faithfully on various committees. After his retirement, Mr. Wooten loved the time he spent working outside by farming and gardening for his family and others in the community. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Dull Wooten; his son-in-law, Johnny Steelman; sisters, Gypsy Fulp, Ethel Griffin, Vicy Gay Key, Lillian Phillips; brothers, Ralph Wooten, Benbow Wooten, and Edgar Vernon Wooten. Surviving are his devoted children, Eddie (Hedy) Wooten, Nancy Steelman, Ann (Terry) Dawson, Kathy (Tom) Hughes; Grandchildren, Burke Wooten, Natasha W. Bargoil, Virginia Wooten, Dana Austin, Marty Davis, Tracy York, Carla Davis, Preston Hughes, Sam Hughes; great grandchildren, Brooke Davis, Natalie York, Brandi Snow, Gracie Bargoil, Boone Wooten, Skye Wooten, Kali Hughes, Olivia Hughes; his special friend, Mabel Cranfill; sisters, Cora W. Hutchens, Barbara W. Gentry; and a brother, Allen Wooten. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM Wednesday at Enon Baptist Church. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary of Enon Baptist Church by Rev. Mark Elmore. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church Building Fund, 6321 Old Highway 421, East Bend NC 27018.
