East Bend Mrs. Edith Marie Davis Carter, 97, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at Vienna Village. Mrs. Carter was born March 25, 1919 in Yadkin County to Jesse and Wilda Lineberry Davis. She was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting and served on many committees until her health started to decline. She was married to Ralph Monroe Carter for 65 years, who preceded her in death April 26, 2005. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling around the country and spending time at the beach until Ralph’s health declined. Mrs. Carter learned to quilt at a young age and made many beautiful quilts over her life. She had many hobbies, such as gardening, embroidering, painting, and reading. Mrs. Carter was a very loving and caring person to her family and friends. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by three daughters, infant Nora Carter, Bonnie Brown, and Abigail Williams; a brother, Lewis Davis; and seven sisters, Blanche Carter, Sadie Wooten, Roxie Hobson, Pearl Carter, Faye Brown, Maye Jarvis, and Laura Ruth Wall. She is survived by two daughters, Wilda (Bobby) Lucas and Dena (Stanley) Todd; sons-in-law, James “Jimmy” Brown and Howard “Squash” Williams; grandchildren, Penny (Barry) Hennings, Mickey Monroe (Lisa) Williams, Jill (Chuck) Crews, Jason (Angie) Brown, Jan (Chris) Vogts, and Michael (Julie) Todd; great grandchildren, Lauren and Lindsey Williams, Barrett and R. Parkley Hennings, Jacob and Samuel Crews, Taran and Eilonwy Vogts, Isaac, Elijah, Ana, Rachel, and Judah Brown, Hannah, Megan, and Caden Todd; sister, Jessie Ray (Jimmie) Smitherman; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Carter and Mabel G. Carter; brother-in-law, Alvis Carter; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 31, 2016 at 3:00 at Mt. Carmel Friends Meeting with Pastor Jeff Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial in the church.
