Georgia Ashburn Current

May 11, 1928 — December 4, 2016

Hamptonville Mrs. Georgia Ruth Ashburn Current whispered good-bye to this world and with assurance, was ushered into the Heavenly realm where she will forever be with the Lord on December 4, 2016. Mrs. Current was a kind and gentle soul, meek in her demeanor yet passionate and so very generous with her love for her family, friends, and all with whom she came into contact. She was a member of Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. A lover of spring and summer, one could always find her outside, barefooted, attending to her flowers and little garden. Her family was her pride and joy; her love unconditional, catering to every need that she could and spoiling her grand-children absolutely rotten. When not outside, she could be found in the kitchen, making something for whoever might be there, whether they wanted it or not, as she loved making everyone feel welcome and at home. After starting every morning with a cup of coffee, nothing pleased her more than a good meal, her favorites being pizza (pepperoni, onions, and green peppers), a grilled rib-eye cooked absolutely to shoe leather, Chick-fil-a (especially their ice cream), a “flounder” plate, “tater” dumplings, or a country ham biscuit from Bojangles. Her sweet smile and calming tone were ever present; no matter the circumstances, Mama and Maw-Maw always made things better. Her life was a witness, testament, and earthly manifestation of God’s unconditional and ever-present love. She will forever be missed but never forgotten. Mrs. Current was born May 11, 1928 to James Wright and Flora Ellen Holcomb Ashburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack Donald Current; one grandson, Kevin Trent Reinhardt; two sisters, Imogene Ashburn and Evelyn Ashburn Goneke; and a very special and dear friend, Arnette Brannon. She is survived by her two children, Pennie (Michael) Reinhardt and Ricky Current; five grandchildren, Michelle (Charles) Tavano, Joshua (Amy) Reinhardt, Courtney (Fielding) Stocksdale, Catherine Current, and Candace Current; four great grandchildren, Ian and Mattie Tavano, Haley Reinhardt, and Simeon Stocksdale; two sisters, Irene Crabb and Dorothy Hazel Holt; two sisters-in-law, Joyce and Louise Current; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul UMC cemetery with Chaplain Mark Brown officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In keeping with their mother’s generous and hospitable spirit, the family invites all to join them for a meal during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to St. Paul UMC Cemetery Fund, c/o Dot Pate, 5901 Johnson Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020.
