Rosa Matthews Chappell

February 22, 1930 — January 29, 2017

Chappell Hamptonville – Rosa Matthews Chappell, 86, a lifelong resident of Yadkin County, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 at her home.  She was born February 22, 1930 in the Forbush area to the late Joseph T. and Sarah Wooten Matthews.  Rosa attended Fall Creek School and married her husband Garl in May of 1948.  Rosa, her husband, and her children enjoyed many years of family farming and operating the Highway 21 Shell Station and Texaco together. Rosa loved socializing with new and old friends alike. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Garl Henry Chappell; son, Harold Dean Chappell; great grandchildren, Alexander, Victoria, and Jacob Chappell; and nine brothers.  Surviving are her daughter, Lora (Garry) Evans; grandchildren, Larry (Tonya) Chappell, Rebecca (Bradley) Willard, Aaron Evans; great grandchild, Finnley Willard; daughter-in-law, Betty Chappell; along with many other beloved nieces, nephews, neighbors, and other family members.  Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Swaims Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Hudson.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville, which is serving the Chappell family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
