Statesville Mrs. Betty “Lorene” Vanhoy Simmons, 85, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at Catawba Valley Hospital. Mrs. Simmons was born December 28, 1931 in Yadkin County to John Roosevelt and Gertha Nichols Vanhoy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest William Simmons; two sisters, Linda Poplin and Judy Ann Vanhoy; and two brothers, Howard Vanhoy and Jimmy Glenn Vanhoy. She is survived by four children, Ronnie (Kathy) Simmons, Charles (Jerlean) Simmons, Brenda (Jody) York, and Glenda Mae (Mike) Willard; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Kay Vanhoy, Liz (Leonard) Reynolds, Gladys Henderson, and Dorothy Buelin; two brothers, Ray (Becky) Vanhoy and Charlie Frank Vanhoy; a brother-in-law, Virgil Poplin; a sister-in-law, Annie Lee Vanhoy; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Sunrise Cemetery with Bro. Jody York and Rev. Steve Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Jonesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mtn. Valley Hospice SECU Hospice Home, 320 W. Maple St. Yadkinville, NC 27055.
