Vaune Irene Rowe Mackie Vaune Irene Rowe Mackie, age 94, died on February 19, 2017, at her home in Cumming, GA, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Middendorf, S.C., to David McLure Rowe and Pearl Rebecca Johnson Rowe, she graduated from St. Andrews College and worked for the Defense Department after graduation during World War II. In 1947 Vaune married Francis Myers Mackie, Sr., whom she had met during the war. She was a career Air Force wife, mother and homemaker in the places where Francis was stationed for over 30 years. She loved working with the officer’s wives’ club. An Episcopalian, she served St. George’s Episcopal Church in Summerville in many capacities. Vaune and Francis retired in Summerville, SC where she enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. She resided with her daughter in Cumming, GA for the last 10 years. Vaune was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, brother Howard, and sisters Hilda, Sara, and Mary Catherine. Survivors include son Ret. Major Francis Myers Mackie, Jr. of Valdosta, GA; daughter Melissa Rowe Mackie of Cumming, GA; grandson Michael Ward Mackie; great granddaughter Joanna Mackie; and beloved nieces and nephews. A graveside burial service will be held with the Reverend Gaye Brown officiating. The viewing will be at 10:00 a.m to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 25th, 2017 at the Gentry Family Funeral Home in Yadkinville, N.C. followed by the graveside funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25th, 2017 in Yadkinville Cemetery.
