Boonville Oct 8, 1940 - 2017 Shirley Miller Robbins, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday February 21, 2017. She was 76 years young. Shirley was born in Boonville, NC on October 08, 1940 to the late James Winston and Mattie Spencer Miller. She was married to Dallas Ray Robbins of Jonesville, NC in August 1964. Shirley graduated from Boonville School and Appalachian State Teachers College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963 and a Master of Arts degree n 1964. She started teaching Mathematics in East Bend then completed her career of 30 years at Boonville Elementary School as a 7th and 8th grade teacher. When H&R Tours was established she started organizing tours all over mainland USA, including destinations in Alaska, Hawaii, China, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Nova Scotia, and Switzerland. She enjoyed traveling with life long friends and making new ones along the way. Shirley was a lifelong member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Boonville, where she not only taught Sunday school but was also the President of the United Methodist Women for several years. The Order of the Eastern Star was also a very important part of Shirley’s life. Her Eastern Star career began in Elkin; however moved to the Yadkin Chapter #233 in 2006. She held various offices, which culminated with the office of the Worthy Matron that she held many times over the years. She cherished the friendships that she made while discharging her Eastern Star duties and was particularly fond of her charitable work within the Eastern Star. Her brothers, Carroll, Edward and Billy Miller, precede her in death. Shirley is survived by her husband, Dallas Ray Robbins; her two daughters, Darlene and Leslie Robbins (husband, Charles Baker); three grandsons and sister Elizabeth Campbell (husband, Graham) as well as two sisters-in-law, Anne Miller and Linda Miller. A memorial service will be held at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Friday February 24, 2017. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Mrs. Robbins during this difficult time.
