Parks Hamptonville- Mrs. Opal Cook Long Parks, 99, our loving “Granny”, has been called to her Heavenly Home. She was born September 21, 1917 in Forsyth County to Rosa Lee Cook. Mrs. Parks was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker to her family. She enjoyed traveling through the community to visit others, and loved those “Good Ole’ Gospel Songs”. She enjoyed singing them with the Yadkin Senior Chorus throughout the County, and watching various groups perform and dance at Hall’s Restaurant. She was the oldest member of Branon Friends Meeting and attended as long as her health permitted. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Long; her second husband, Walter Parks; a loving great-granddaughter, Christine Ann Lawson; and a great-grandson, Gavyn Karter Mappa. Surviving are her children, Patty (Harmon) DeHart and Terry (Teresa) Long; grandchildren, Jeff Lawson, Scott (Monika) Long, Tracy (Jeff) Fink, Jessica (David) Mappa; several great-grandchildren; very close loving cousins, Cynthia Ellis and Mary Ellen Mitchell; a special thank you to Laurie Lawson and Pat Spencer, and 2 canine friends, Joey and Midnight. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM Monday, March 6, 2017 at Branon Friends Meeting. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM Monday in the church with Rev. Eric Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
