Harvey Gray Swisher

Swisher   Yadkinville - Mr. Harvey Gray Swisher, 81, lovingly known as “Pa” passed away Monday, March 6th, 2017. He was born May 29th, 1935 in Yadkin County to Jesse Lee Swisher and Mary Ellen Cook Swisher. Mr. Swisher was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Boonville, NC and was a retired brick mason, contractor and a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Swisher had a hand in the construction of many of the buildings in and around Yadkin County. “Pa” was adored by his family and had nicknames for all of his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Swisher was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Swisher, grandson, Andrew Swisher and son-in-law, Larry Shaver. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Mattie Evans Swisher, seven daughters; Donna (Calvin)Snow, Sandra Shaver, Pamela Swisher (Andy), Penny (Dane) Eller, Laura (Junior) Thompson, Robin (Darin) Bowers and Kimberly (Jason) Palmer. Nine grandchildren; Brandie Couch, Adam (Elizabeth) Snow, Emily Meadows, Cody Eller, Laken Thompson, Chelsea(Danny)Casey, Daniel Harrell, Jacob Thompson and Luke Bowers. Four great-grandchildren; Kirsten Burgess, Jackson Couch, Katie Pitts and Spencer Snow. A sister, Cynthia Ellis, special niece, Mary Mitchell, brother-in-law’s, Harold (Louise) Evans, Ray Evans, sister-in-law’s, Betty Nicks and Brenda (Benny) Hudson. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., March 8th at Gentry Funeral Services in Yadkinville. His funeral service will be on Thursday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Swisher will lie in-state from 1:30-2:00 p.m., the funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Paul Stewart and Pastor Junior Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the N.C.
