Astor Vance “A. V.” Phillips, Jr., 87, passed away Wednesday December 13, 2017. He was born December 16, 1929 in Forsyth County to the late Vance and Lillian Smitherman Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a member of Baltimore United Methodist Church. He served in the US Army based in Panama, came back home to the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Nell Ray Hauser, Gail Folkes; two brothers Ed Phillips and Tom Phillips. Surviving are his wife Eleanor Milholen Phillips; son Justin (Jessica) Phillips; step daughters Glenda (Bodie) Wingler, Brenda (Marvin) Mercer; step son Mike (Tammy) Shore; Grandchildren Ashlyn, Adrianna, Bella, Gabby, and Juli Phillips, Victoria, Olivia, and Alexandria Wingler, Dakota, Blaine, and Chancy Mercer, Eric Shore, Rachael Smith, and Katie Church; Brother Thurmond (Jean) Phillips; sister in law Jane Phillips; a host of Nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday December 14, 2017 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday December 15, 2017 at Baltimore United Methodist Church by Rev. Chad Shoaf and Bodie Wingler.
