Mrs. Ateree Hanes Evans, 88, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024. She was born October 7, 1936 in Surry County to the late Ernest Graham Hanes and Eulah Lee Wood Hanes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Davis Evans; brothers, Windell Hanes, Bobby Hanes; and her sister, Rose Emma Hanes Baugess. Mrs. Evans was a member of Swaims Baptist Church, where she loved attending and singing in the choir while her health permitted. Mrs. Evans enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family and friends, working in her flowers, and she loved bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She is survived by her children, Renae (Randy) Cheek, Tony (Lisa) Evans; grandchildren, Jennifer Elizabeth Cheek (Tim Lanning), Blake Harrison Cheek (Mallory); great-grandson, Hudson Beau Cheek; and her brother, Roger Dale Hanes (Kathy). The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Friday, December 13, 2024 at Swaims Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Gordon Macemore officiating. Burial will follow church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Swaims Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Evans. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Evans family.
