Barbara Davis Starling

Mrs. Barbara Davis Starling, 81, passed away at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. She was born in McDuffie County, Georgia on February 23, 1942 to John C. Davis and Vera L. Davis. Barbara retired from Hanes/Sara Lee Hosiery after 41 years of working. Later she volunteered at Forsyth Medical Center for many years. Barbara was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for her whole life. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. Barbara enjoyed traveling to Ohio to visit her granddaughter while she was in college, and traveling all over the county to watch her granddaughters ball games. She was their biggest fan. One of her most treasured roles she had was being a “Nanma” and “Mawmaw”. Her heart was so full when she became a great-grandmother, and she gave so much love to all of her babies. Everyone who had the privilege to know her will miss her greatly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Lee Starling; sister, Kathy Thomas; niece, Tabitha Kavalew; and special friend, Howard Holcomb. She is survived by her children, Diane (Perry) Edwards and Johnny (Sandy) Starling; granddaughters, Sarah (Lucas) Matthews, Emily Crissman, and Taylor Edwards; great-grandchildren, Charley Crissman, Ellie Crissman, Carter Matthews, and Cooper Matthews; brother, JC (Diane) Davis; sisters, Peggy Lou Davis, Judy (Henry) Bowman, Linda (Terry) Lord, and Regina (Greg) Hardy; and special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Poindexter and Pastor Vann Harrell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend. The family would like to say a special thank you to Woltz Hospice Home for the loving and compassionate care given to Mrs. Starling and her family.
