Bennie “Harold” Burcham, 86, returned to his heavenly home on January 12, 2018. He was deeply loved by his family and he will be greatly missed. Harold was born to the late John Q. and Blanche Burcham, in Wilkes County, on February 7, 1931. He was an active member of the United States Navy from July of 1952 to July of 1956. He was stationed in San Diego, California, as well as the Philippine Islands. He was employed by ABTICO in Roaring River, NC for 25 years and retired in 1996. Harold married his best friend and love of his life, Mildred Billings Burcham, on February 9, 1954. He was a loving father to his two children, Randal Harold Burcham and Laurie Ann Lankford. Harold and Mildred enjoyed their life together and it was very rare to see one without the other. They enjoyed their time in San Diego during the early years of their marriage and continued to travel when they could throughout their marriage. Some of the most memorable trips were the trips with their children when they were younger and the trip to Niagara Falls with Mildred’s sister and brother-in-law, Earlene and Kenneth Poplin. Harold enjoyed his weekly, sometimes multiple, trips to Matty’s for lunch or dinner. Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Billings Burcham, of Roaring River, NC; his son, Randal Harold Burcham of N. Wilkesboro, NC; his daughter, Laurie Ann Lankford (Dwayne) of Jonesville, NC; his three granddaughters, Kristen Booker (Heath) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kayla Darnell of Jonesville, NC, and Randi Anderson (Scott) of Mooresville, NC; his four great grandchildren, Brady Booker, Briggs Darnell, Hagen Anderson, and Jocelyn Anderson; and many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Judith Burcham; his parents, John Q. and Blanche Burcham; his brothers, Denny, James, and William Burcham. Bennie will be buried at Macedonia Baptist Church in Ronda, NC on January 15, 2018. A viewing will be held at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral, which will begin at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church fellowship hall. Reverend Mike Smith and Reverend Dwayne Lankford will officiate the service. A special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice of Yadkinville for taking such loving care of Harold and his family. Gentry family Funeral service in Jonesville is serving the Burcham family.
