East Bend Mr. Bernice “Bud” Harold Cayton, Jr., 67, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Bud was born June 27, 1955 in Martin County to Bernice and Lessie Jones Cayton. Over the years, he lived in Pitt, Wilson, and Forsyth Counties. Bud previously worked in mental health services, and volunteered extensively with the American Red Cross. He was on the NC Governors Board as a representative for the deaf-blind, advocating for disability rights. Bud served as the President of the NC Deaf Blind Associates, a nonprofit organization for many years. In his later years, Bud was known throughout the Triad area and beyond for his folk-art bird houses. Bud loved his family and was so proud to be a Grand-daddy and Great Grand Daddy. Bud was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Deborah Harrell-Cayton; sons, Bernie (Amanda) Cayton, Chris Cayton, and Shane Cayton; grandchildren, Nora (Trenton) Bullock, Christian (Jessica) Cayton, Elizabeth Cayton, and Robbie Cayton; great granddaughter, Penelope Joyce Bullock; upcoming great grandchildren, James Michael Cayton and Cassidy Marie Bullock; step daughter, Lisa Harrell; niece, Emily Aycock; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Donnie) Hinnant, Kathy (David) Key, and Vernell Aycock; and lifelong friend, Frank Williams. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Nobels Chapel Baptist Church, 7330 Old Raleigh Road Sims, NC with Rev. Stephen Evans officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NC Deaf Blind Association, or to Nobels Chapel Baptist Church, 7330 Old Raleigh Rd. Sims, NC 27880.
